Entering Albania

Albania is an entrepreneur friendly country and relatively easy to visit. Although foreign nationals normally need a visa before visiting Albania, visitors from over 79 countries/territories enjoy visa-free entry into Albania, usually limited to up 90 days within a 180 day period.

US citizens may stay in Albania for up to one year without a residence permit. In addition, citizens who are holding a valid multiple entries Schengen/US/UK visa or residence permit, already used in these respective countries, can enter Albania and stay for up to 90 days within 180 days.

Visitors who do not qualify for visa-free entry into Albania must obtain a visa from one of the Albanian diplomatic missions.

 

Work Permit

Foreigners who intend to work in Albania and directors of companies registered in Albania must obtain a Work Permits in order to be able to work legally in Albania. Foreigners must apply for either a work permit or a work registration certificate.

Citizens of the USA and EU/Schengen area are exempt from the obligation to apply for a work permit or a work registration certificate and will be equipped with an exemption certificate from the Labor and Social Issues Ministry.

Residence Permit

If you plan to move to Albania to be actively in your company operations, you need to apply for a Residence Permit. Note that approval of a Residence Permit is subject to review and approval by government authorities. Each application is considered based on its own merits.

Individuals who are planning to stay in Albania for more than 90 days within a 180-day period and who plan to apply for a residence permit must obtain type D visa.

The foreigner you must appear in person at the office of the Regional Directorate of Border and Migration having jurisdiction over your place of residence and submit an application for a residency permit or its renewal.
